Forum Account Problems
Written by Manic Velocity, May 18th, 2007
Ever since our story aired on Fox, we’ve had a flood of new people registering accounts on our forums.
For the past few months, certain measures have been taken to ensure that the forums stay clean of spam bots. These are programs that roam the internet registering accounts on forums, message boards, and blogs, and then use these accounts to post messages directing real users to websites containing illegal software and spyware.
One of the key security features we’ve put in place requires every user to validate their email address before their account can qualify for moderation to become fully registered. After you submit your account information, an email will be automatically sent to the address that you provided during registration. This email contains a link that the user needs to click in order to let the forum administrator know that the account is ready to be activated. A problem that often arises is that this automatic email has the possibility of being viewed as spam by the user’s email program. The user never sees this email and as a result, the account never gets activated.
If you have registered an account on our forums and have received no such email regarding your account activation, take a moment to double-check your email spam box.
In closing, we’d like to welcome all the newcomers to the SLCPK community!
